Middle States Accreditation
Father Andrew White Catholic Elementary School for grades Pre-K through 8 accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and sponsored by the Archdiocese of Washington.
September 4, 2007
Dear Parents,
This year, as a school, we are focusing on the Beatitudes and living our lives as Jesus did. This is the beginning of our school project for our Middle States Accreditation. The reaccredidation process is a valuable tool for the school to evaluate the understanding of its mission and beliefs, as well as growth and improvement. Our project will focus on “Commitment to Service and Stewardship.” During the year our study of the Beatitudes will lay a foundation for an ongoing emphasis on this topic through the next few years.
Each month we will be discussing and doing activities in class that center on a Beatitude. Our children are living in a world today where the focus is often on “me, me, me” and “what can others do to make me happy or my life better”. We are hoping that this project will help to change that attitude and encourage the students of Father Andrew White School to focus on “what can I do for others”. As a staff, we feel that educating our students about the Beatitudes is the place to start. We also want to include our families in our plan as we know that success is much more likely when efforts at home and school are consistent.
We will be sending home a letter about our Beatitude each month for you to talk about as a family and try to put each Beatitude into practice in your home lives as well. Attached is a family log to record your discussions and describe things your family members have done as an example of our Beatitude of the month. Some examples are listed for you. We are asking that your family turn in your Beatitude log at the end of each month. We need your support to make this project a success! If you have any questions, please let the classroom teachers know.
Thank you for your support,
F.A.W. Staff
